Project: Convective heat transfer visualization

Description

Heat transfer represents the transport of thermal energy along certain paths, much like fluid motion represents the transport of fluid parcels along fluid paths. Due to this similarity, heat transfer can be analyzed and visualized based on tools similar to those used for fluid motion; Figure 1 shows a 2D visualization of convective heat transfer, see ref [1] for details.

The goal of this project is to create 3D visualizations showcasing heat transfer phenomena. In detail, usage scenarios for heat transfer analysis and visualization should be researched and identified. An efficient 3D implementation of convective heat transfer should be done. Additionally, starting from state-of-the-art methods from flow and coherent structure visualization, novel methods for heat transfer visualization should be implemented. The focus should be on identifying and visualizing thermal topology and its composition, e.g., heat sinks and sources, influx/outflux walls, etc.
